How thermofoil, laminate, painted and natural wood doors compare in look, wear, repair and cleaning.
Cabinet doors can be covered in very different surfaces. Thermofoil is a vinyl film heated and pressed over fiberboard. Laminate is a layered sheet glued to a panel. Painted doors have a coating applied to wood or fiberboard. Natural wood doors are stained or clear coated to show the grain. Each surface looks, wears and repairs differently.
Thermofoil and laminate are easy to wipe and are common in budget lines and commercial spaces. Painted doors give a wide range of colors and can be touched up. Wood doors show natural warmth and can be refinished. Nashville kitchens that see steam and heat benefit from knowing the limits of each surface. We show samples and explain how each one ages.
