Cabinet Refinishing

Cabinet refinishing that strips, repairs and recoats your existing cabinets in stain or paint, restoring color and protection without new doors.

Cabinets can wear out their finish long before their wood gives out. Sun, steam and daily handling dull the surface and wear the edges. Refinishing restores the color, protects the wood and can change the look completely, from honey oak to deep espresso or soft gray. Many Nashville homeowners choose refinishing when the cabinets are solid wood and the style is still right for them.

We start with a Free Cabinet Estimate and examine the cabinets to see what kind of finish is on them and how worn it is. We remove doors and hardware, clean and degrease the surfaces, repair dings and holes, sand or strip as needed and apply stain or paint and a protective coat. Everything cures before the doors are rehung and adjusted. A successful refinish depends on what is already on the cabinets. Old varnish, built-up grease and layers of wax all affect how the new finish bonds, so we test the surface and choose the right cleaners, strippers and sealers. We discuss the final color on your actual wood, because oak, maple and birch each take stain in their own way, and we protect nearby surfaces during every step.

Questions

Cabinet Refinishing FAQ

Is refinishing better than refacing?

It depends. Refinishing keeps your doors and changes the finish, while refacing replaces the doors. We help you choose.

Can I go from dark to light?

Yes, often with paint. Going lighter with stain is harder, and we explain what is realistic.

Will the grain show?

With stain, yes. With paint, open grain on woods such as oak may show unless filled.

How long does a refinish last?

With proper preparation and coating, it lasts well. We explain how to care for it.

Do I need to empty the cabinets?

We ask you to clear the contents so doors and boxes can be worked on.
